Is anyone left at Bethel who knew Judge Rutherford?
by VM44 indoes any of our former bethel workers know if there is anyone still at bethel (brooklyn) that personally knew judge rutherford?.
rutheford died in 1942, so there is a very real possibility that there is now no one around who knew the man.. as for charles taze russell, he died in 1916 and so there is no one still alive who knew him, let alone even met him!
even a baby born in 1916 would be 92 years old today!.

My guess is that if there is they would be in their 80's, so I guess it's possible.

Watchtower spins quote from seismologist, October 1 Pubic Edition.
by Open mind inoctober 1, pubic edition, page 7. .
"if it seems to you that now more people than ever before are affected by earthquakes, you are correct.
'suddenly we are seeing a spurt in seismic activity globally," observed indian seismologist r. k. chadha in 2007.

Jonsson & Herbst totally obliterated the Society's old egregious misuses of seismology in the best chapter of their SIGN OF THE LAST DAYS -- WHEN?, a book that doesn't get mentioned here enough.
Ditto. I credit that book for helping me put the world of end times hysteria finally behind me for good.

The Watchtowers view of earthquakes in my opinion is their most absurd teaching.
When I was leaving the JWs I brought up the absurdity of this teaching to an Elder in a private conversation. He admitted that there are things that he "doesn't take to seriously" and this was one of them.
Watchtower magazines are written by the ignorant, for the ignorant. It doesn't matter if the magazines contain any sort of scientific truth because they will never really be scrutinized at the level. That's the beauty of propaganda, it's always a one way street. Something that is meant to influence, not engage. In this case it's simply meant to impress people that typically have no interest in seismology, but rather like to use it as a way to read into the bible. -

11/15/08 WT: Sick? Too damn bad - get yer @$$ back to the KH, slacker!
by sir82 inthere's been a few topics on the "search out the inactive ones" articles in this wt, but i haven't seen anything on the 3rd study article, titled "maintain a scriptural view of healthcare".. i was unaware that the bible had anything to say at all about healthcare, but oh how wrong i was!.
unfortunately, no scanner - perhpas one of the other intrepid posters could scan and post it.. but here are a few choice quotes:.
paragraph 6: "...we know it is wise to avoid letting our health become an obsession or a constant concern.".

How Pathetic Are Jehovah's Witnesses?
by Tired of the Hypocrisy ini have to say that i have been experiencing a wave of pathetic jws.
they all seem to be hyper defensive, off base, and willing to do and say anything to win.
the ones i run into lately are very wary since i wear my grizzled "commander ryker" beard like a badge of honor.

Good points PrimateDave.
I think in a more general sense I would simply say that Watchtower leadership has followed a policy of complete isolationism. The leaders have locked themselves away in their corporate office and answer to nobody. They do not even put their names on the articles they write.
In essence, they hide from their piers. Who are their piers? It is not typical folk like you and I. Rather it is the scholars and religious leaders the Watchtower claims are wicked and in error. If the leaders of the Watchtower are unwilling to allow academic discussion with such people, they play themselves the fool.
Let their leaders come out of the shadows and debate, argue, and discuss their absurdist theories with respectable academics who disagree. Even the mormons attempt such things (not that they are taken very seriously for it).
